Description

Crafted by the Yoruba, the handwoven cloth is folded and pleated in many ways before being stitched. This cloth was made famous for its signature Indigo color.
It has been made using the same techniques for centuries and the technique are still used often in Ghana and Nigeria today. The fabric is tie-dyed and dipped in Indigo, “the Yoruba use warp stripes of alternate copiers to create contrasts in their ‘country’ cloths.” (Gillow, 2009).  Warp-Ikat textiles vary and are very complex.
