Description

Akyempim, translates to One Thousand Shields, the one who wears this cloth is “fearless”. A Kente cloth made of cotton with silk details.

The Ashanti of the Gold Coat control the only source of gold available to pre-Columbian Christendom. They learned to weave from Kong weavers. The weavers would obtain their silk either from Italian waste silk which was brought down across the Sahara or the silk would be bought from European traders on the coast.

The Blue Kente is one of the most iconic materials, the Ashanti would use geometric motifs in their weaving and each motif was associated with a proverb and would we given a suitable name to accompany that proverb.
